On June 3 a team of industry partners, sponsors and volunteers safely gathered at the Calgary Stampede Grandstand to assemble personal protective equipment (PPE) kits for truck drivers.

CALGARY – June 3, 2020 – On Wednesday, June 3 a team of industry partners, sponsors and volunteers will safely gather at the Calgary Stampede Grandstand to assemble 25,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits for truck drivers. This is being done in support of the safety of commercial truck drivers who continue to haul and deliver essential goods throughout our province and beyond.

The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) is excited to be working towards defining a Research and Innovation Program that will support economic growth through opportunity, investment, and industry expertise while accelerating job creation.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared in our province, Albertans have come together like never before. Families, workers, businesses, lawmakers, elected leaders and industries across the spectrum have shown a remarkable capacity to adapt and persevere.

The AMTA will be releasing a weekly industry update survey for Carriers in order to get a sense of how industry is affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.

In the second week of March, Course Development has been feverishly working on modifying our classroom-based courses for distance delivery. This includes creating computer-based exams and revising activities that are completed in groups in the face-to-face setting.

Today, the Alberta Government announced temporary modifications to regulations for commercial drivers and railway operators during the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement was made in order to ensure the province’s supply chain continues necessary delivery of goods such as medical supplies and groceries.

The AMTA will be releasing a weekly industry update survey for Carriers in order to get a sense of how industry is affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.

In an effort to help serve commercial drivers transporting goods across Alberta and the nation, the AMTA has compiled a database of rest area locales, amenities offered and hotels opening their doors to truck drivers in need of a hot shower and a bed.

Good News for Industry – Alberta Transportation announced that effective January 3, 2020, carrier profiles requested online through the Web-Enabled Carrier Profile (WECP) service will be free of charge.
