Breaking: AMTA and partners to assemble 25,000 free PPE kits for commercial truck drivers

CALGARY – June 3, 2020 – On Wednesday, June 3 a team of industry partners, sponsors and volunteers will safely gather at the Calgary Stampede Grandstand to assemble 25,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits for truck drivers. This is being done in support of the safety of commercial truck drivers who continue to haul and deliver essential goods throughout our province and beyond.

Through combined efforts and the generosity of BMO, Women in Supply Chain, UFA, The Gear Centre and others, the non-surgical masks and gloves for these kits have been procured and the organizing team has been overtly diligent in preparing to follow all social distancing and sanitation guidelines.

“This event has truly been a group effort, coming together quickly thanks to the efforts of all involved. We all know drivers are essential to our supply chain and although they have been hauling throughout the COVID-19 pandemic for weeks now, we need to continue to support them, and most importantly keep them safe,” says Chris Nash, president of the Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA).

Through the kind co-operation of Alberta Sheriffs, the PPE kits will be available for free at six Alberta weigh scales as early as Thursday afternoon, and available to all drivers, regardless of their employer.

Without drivers, goods and medical supplies would not get to where they are needed. Thank you to those on our roads who are keeping things moving. Stay safe out there.
