The recently named Sheriff Highway Patrol (SHP) continues to work hard to remove unsafe commercial vehicles and drivers off our provincial highways. COVID may have changed how we do business but it hasn’t stopped us from meeting our mandate. In 2020, SHP has already completed over 27,000 CVSA Roadside Inspections and removed over 10,000 commercial vehicles from the highway.

When winter hits, nearly 700 snowplows and other pieces of snow removal equipment are mobilized to clear Alberta’s highways and maintain safe winter driving conditions. Alberta’s Highway Maintenance Contractors and snowplow operators are committed to their responsibilities for public safety and ask that all motorists understand that they too have a key role to play in winter maintenance operations.

Growing up, were you part of an organized team sports? Possibly, you grew up playing soccer, hockey, chess, or gymnastics. Through my youth, I was fortunate to play a couple of different sports. At times, I excelled at the game, and at times, I excelled at warming the bench. One of the sports I found myself doing quite well at was basketball, and I credit one of my first basketball coaches for this.

One of the newer additions to the Alberta Motor Transport Association’s (AMTA) safety training repertoire is the Certified Transportation Safety Professional (CTSP) Program taking safety and compliance to a whole new level.

In collaboration with Sheriff Highway Patrol, Justice and Solicitor General, the Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) will be hosting a series of Driver Appreciation Days between September 1st and 18th, to coincide with National Trucking Week.

The EPS Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit (CVIU), as it is currently known has been in existence for 25 years.

All eligible employers whose business have been affected by COVID-19 were eligible for a subsidy of up to 75% of employee wages for up to 24 weeks, retroactive from March 15, 2020, to August 29, 2020.
