RELEASE: AMTA Edmonton Facility achieves full LEED Silver certification
Edmonton, AB (October 6, 2020) – The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) is pleased to announce our Edmonton office and training facility has achieved full LEED Silver certification helping to further the commercial transportation industry’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, provides the framework for healthy, efficient and cost-saving green buildings and is recognized worldwide.
“In the early stages of planning the AMTA training facility in Edmonton, it was important to us we were conscious of the environmental footprint we would be creating,” said AMTA Executive Director and Edmonton Facility Project Lead Kimberley Burfoot. “The commercial transportation industry is cognizant of reducing greenhouse gases and as the voice, the standard and the resource of our industry, to utilize green practices.”
Achieving LEED is no easy task. Interested parties first register for a project by completing forms and submitting payment; apply for the certification, have the certification reviewed by Green Business Certification Inc., and finally, if approved, receive the certification decision. In the AMTA’s case, the total process took they typical two years.
“I am proud of the efforts made in this LEED certification achievement. It is just one of the steps taken by the association to raise awareness of carbon footprint reduction and goes hand in hand with other research and innovation projects we’re working on including the Alberta Zero Emission Truck Electrification Collaboration (AZETEC),” added AMTA President Chris Nash. “Industry is moving in an environmentally conscious direction and we look forward to what the future holds.”
