CVSA: Drivers operating a CMV without an ELD will be placed out of service

CVSA – Greenbelt, Maryland (April 1, 2018) – Starting today, April 1, 2018, property-carrying commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers operating their vehicle without a required registered electronic logging device (ELD) or a grandfathered automatic on-board recording device (AOBRD) will be placed out of service for 10 hours; passenger-carrying CMV drivers will be placed out of service for 8 hours.

AMTA announces new President

Chris Nash has been appointed the role of President of the Alberta Motor Transport Association effective March 5, 2018.

Chris has more than 30 years’ experience in the transportation industry and is key to a number of committees and initiatives. Chris joined the AMTA Board of Directors in 2016 as the Edmonton Regional Director, and was nominated and elected as Vice-Chairman of the Board in April 2017. He sits on many other committees, and is also a board member with the Canadian Trucking Alliance.

ELD mandate goes into effect; inspectors begin documenting ELD violations

Greenbelt, Maryland (Dec. 18, 2017) – Starting today, Dec. 18, 2017, in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) congressionally mandated electronic logging device (ELD) compliance deadline, inspectors and roadside enforcement personnel throughout the United States will begin documenting ELD violations on roadside inspection reports and, at the jurisdiction’s discretion, may issue citations to commercial motor vehicle drivers operating vehicles without a compliant ELD.

CVSA releases results from Brake Safety Day

Greenbelt, Maryland (Nov. 7, 2017) – On Sept. 7, 2017, enforcement personnel throughout Canada and the United States conducted 7,698 inspections on commercial motor vehicles as part of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Brake Safety Day. Fourteen percent of the vehicles inspected were placed out of service specifically for brake-related violations.

Operation Safe Driver Week starts

Greenbelt, Maryland (Oct. 15, 2017) – The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver Week is this week, Oct. 15-21, 2017. Throughout the week, there will be heightened traffic safety enforcement and education aimed at combating dangerous driving behaviors by commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and passenger vehicle drivers. Enforcement personnel will identify and issue warnings and/or citations to drivers exhibiting unsafe driving behaviors on our roadways.
