AMTA President Lorraine Card to retire
After three years at the helm of the Alberta Motor Transport Association as president, Lorraine Card has announced her retirement.
Card is highly respected by AMTA staff, and the industry as a whole, and has devoted her time with the AMTA to streamlining processes and lobbying for safer highways for commercial drivers and the public alike. She was involved with several important initiatives including New Generation Single Wide Base Tires; Electronic Logging Devices; pushing for better and more available rest stops for drivers, working towards Mandatory Entry Level Training in Alberta and more.
Card has had a long career in transportation, starting out with Greyhound Canada Ltd. – a company with which she’d spend a total of 22 years, ending as Director of Safety. Card also worked for Diversified Transportation setting up driving training standards. Before taking on the role as AMTA president, she also spent time with the Alberta Government working with Driver Programs and Licensing, and Carrier Services.
The AMTA has posted for the position of president – closing November 19 – with plans to have the position hired by January. Card will remain on in a mentor role until the end of April.
