THRC testifies before House of Commons committee on ‘Driver Inc.’
Trucking HR Canada (THRC) appeared before the House of Commons Transport Committee to address the growing issue of the Driver Inc. model, the illegal misclassification of drivers as independent contractors.
THRC CEO Angela Splinter emphasized that the practice undermines fair treatment, erodes worker protections, and creates unfair competition for compliant carriers. She urged action to restore fairness and integrity within Canada’s trucking industry.
Register for the North American Cargo Securement Harmonization Public Forum
The North American Cargo Securement Harmonization Public Forum will take place on November 6 in Ottawa, Ontario. Open to all industry stakeholders, this event focuses on improving and aligning cargo securement regulations across North America.
There is no cost to attend, but advance registration through the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) is required by October 24. Stakeholders are also invited to submit cargo securement issues for consideration in the forum agenda by October 17.

Applications now open for 2026 Top Fleet Employers program
Trucking HR Canada (THRC) has officially opened applications for the 2026 Top Fleet Employers (TFE) program. This national initiative recognizes fleets that demonstrate excellence in human resources practices and workplace culture. Fleets that meet THRC’s rigorous standards earn the TFE designation, an industry mark of distinction that can be used to enhance recruitment and employer branding efforts.

CVSA Releases 2025 International Roadcheck Results
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has released the results of the 2025 International Roadcheck, conducted May 13–15 across Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. Inspectors completed 56,178 inspections, finding that 81.6% of vehicles and 94.1% of drivers had no out-of-service violations. In total, 10,148 vehicles and 3,342 drivers were placed out of service, with tires and false records of duty status as this year’s focus areas.

Peterbilt Delivers First Model 567 Built in Canada to Environmental 360 Solutions

Manitoba Driver Named National Driver of the Year
Mario Bulacso of Steinbach, Man., has been named the 2025 Canadian Trucking Alliance/Volvo Trucks Canada National Driver of the Year. A livestock hauler with HyLife, Mario has built a 10-year, collision-free career marked by professionalism, safety, and dedication to animal care.
Recognized as Manitoba’s Driver of the Year in 2024, Mario now earns Canada’s top honour for professional drivers. His commitment to mentoring new drivers and building community on the road highlights the leadership and integrity that make him an industry ambassador.
Back to School Traffic Safety
As kids head back to school, drivers are urged to slow down and stay alert in school zones, crosswalks, and near buses. Most school bus collisions happen in urban areas, and failing to stop for a bus with flashing red lights can cost $567 and six demerit points.
