Alberta Sheriffs: Sheriff highway patrol update

ELD Update  

Transport Canada announced on Oct. 26, 2020 Electronic Logging Device (ELD) certification body FPInnovations has been accredited as the first third-party organization to certify electronic logging devices in Canada. The purpose of the certification body is to ensure electronic logging devices submitted for testing are safe, reliable, and approved for use in Canada.

Newly amalgamated Sheriff Highway Patrol continues to meet its mandate

The recently named Sheriff Highway Patrol (SHP) continues to work hard to remove unsafe commercial vehicles and drivers off our provincial highways. COVID may have changed how we do business but it hasn’t stopped us from meeting our mandate. In 2020, SHP has already completed over 27,000 CVSA Roadside Inspections and removed over 10,000 commercial vehicles from the highway.

Alberta Government Release: Cutting outdated commercial carrier permits

Note: The AMTA has reached out for further clarification on the wording of the announced legislation with more information to follow.

The Commercial Vehicle Dimension and Weight Regulation specifies the legal size, weight and configuration limits for commercial vehicles on Alberta roads. The limits in the regulation have not been updated in decades and do not reflect modern vehicle configurations and equipment.
