News Release: Alberta Motor Transport Association and Saskatchewan Trucking Association: First of its kind partnership in safety

Calgary, AB (August 11, 2020) – For over 80 years, the Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) has been the voice, the standard and the resource for the commercial transportation industry in Alberta. So too has the Saskatchewan Trucking Association who has be dedicated to the betterment of the industry through education, connection and support for members.

As champions for safety and advocacy, these associations have entered into a first-of-its-kind collaborative partnership, leveraging AMTA’s expertise to support STA in bringing high-quality, harmonized training programs to its members. Under the new agreement, the AMTA is customizing courses for delivery to Saskatchewan’s commercial transportation industry.

With STA in the lead, AMTA has adapted instructional materials and assessments to align with Saskatchewan’s unique legislative needs and practices, while maintaining the integrity of the training and intended objectives and outcomes.

“This is a significant step in standardizing best practices through harmonized training,” explains Erik Sherman, Director of Injury Reduction, Training and COR at the ATMA. “Carriers operating interprovincially will directly benefit from a consistent approach to training, while our association’s set an example of inter-jurisdictional cooperation in support of safer workplaces.”

Susan Ewart, Executive Director of the STA echoes the message. “We are excited to announce our partnership with the AMTA in collaborating to bring exciting new programs to our carriers. This creates a new standard for collaboration in industry led education and safety and paves the way for STA to offer COR certification to our members. We look forward to what this partnership will bring to Saskatchewan and I want to thank the AMTA for helping us achieve this goal.”
