Class 5 added to AMTA Driver of the Month Nominations

The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) Driver of the Month program is expanding to include Class 5 drivers to increase the nominee pool and generate increased interest in the program.

“The program serves to showcase a Carriers’ employees, while internally building on the pride of an organization,” said Dale Howard, AMTA Business Development. “The award reinforces all the positive things the commercial transportation industry encompasses.”

Howard is especially fond of the award given he was named Driver of the Month in the late 1970s while driving for Transmutual Trucklines.

Interested Carriers can submission driver nominations via an AMTA form. If there are three or more submissions in a month, the committee meets to make the selection. Winners are selected by a Driver of the Month Committee who selects a driver anonymously based on skillsets, safety record, letters of commendation and more.

Winners are announced at AMTA’s monthly regional meetings and presented with a certificate for themselves, and their employer, a monogrammed jacket and more.

In the timeline of a year – December thru December – monthly winners are pooled and one selected to be named Driver of the Year. Driver of the Year is announced at AMTA’s annual Leadership Conference & AGM at a celebratory awards gala. As well, the Driver of the Year is entered as a nominee for the Canadian Trucking Alliance National Driver of the Year.
