April 2022 Driver of the Month: Ken Grabinsky, Sobeys

Ken Grabinsky comes from a trucking family including his father Henry and three older brothers Dale, Doug and Tim. Ken started his trucking career (under the radar) at the age of 17, driving his father’s gravel truck for the City of Calgary in 1983. In 1988, at the age of twenty-two, he purchased a body job and began hauling independent grocery in Calgary for Macdonald’s Consolidated.

After learning how expensive having two children can be, Ken bought a semi in 1991 and switched to delivering to independent customers throughout southern Alberta. Trucking has never been Ken’s passion, he enjoys fishing and woodworking when he finds the time. Like most drivers trucking is the way for him to bring home the most for his family.

The life of a Canadian trucker can be tough on a family man but despite long hours in sometimes dangerous road conditions Ken always has time for his wife Vickie and two grown children Samantha and Seth as well as maintaining one of the most respectable yards in the neighborhood.

After thirty years of being an owner-operator Ken now remains on the same run for Sobeys and finds doing the same work without paying for the fuel and repairs agreeable.
