Trans-Canada Highway Closure: Manitoba

As some Carriers may be aware, the Trans Canada Highway through Headingley, Manitoba will be closed entirely for repairs to the CP rail line from June 24-28.  Via our friends at the Manitoba Trucking Association, Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI) has a route detour plan to accommodate motor carriers who operate long combination vehicles (LCVs) impacted by the closure.

Due to safety concerns, operators of long combination vehicles (LCVs) will only be authorized to use the detour routes during daylight hours. LCVs that cannot be accommodated during the daylight will be required to either split their units, park somewhere, or pause dispatching until PTH 1 or the detour routes re-open.

LCV’s are not permitted on the detour routes after sundown and/or before sunrise (night travel). Manitoba Motor Carrier Enforcement will be on site to ensure these accommodations are adhered to by all carriers.

**NOTE**
THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT DETOUR ROUTES:

LCV Detour Route:

  • Eastbound detour route: south on PTH 13, east on PTH 2 to the Perimeter Highway.

  • Westbound detour route: west on PTH 2, north on PTH 13, west on the Trans Canada Highway.

Detour Routes for All Other Traffic:

  • Eastbound Detour Route: south on PTH 13, east on PTH 2 to the Perimeter Highway

  • Westbound Detour Route: west on PTH 2, north on PTH 248, west on the Trans Canada Highway
