Prorate and IRP Processing Experiencing Wait Time Reductions

AMTA

Federally regulated carriers in Alberta can partake in the International Registration Plan (IRP) through the Alberta Transportation IRP Online system (ATIOS), administered through Alberta’s Prorate Services, to save from getting trip permits when they leave the province. AMTA’s Compliance & Regulatory Affairs (CRA) has been meeting regularly with Prorate Services to relay industry feedback and find ways to reduce processing times.

Prorate Services started experiencing significant service delays during COVID-19. Simple changes to accounts (like adding a new vehicle) take approximately 7 days; however, some carriers report wait times of more than two weeks for such requests, and new fleets have experienced delays of more than 1 month.

Fortunately, these times have recently declined; carriers are seeing prorate times approaching nine days – much closer to the seven days frequently seen before the pandemic.

Thanks to AMTA’s ongoing feedback and new hires at Prorate Services, we expect to see processing times return to levels acceptable to Albertan carriers.

AMTA will continue to meet with Prorate Services to share information and pass along carrier feedback; we will provide regular updates through our standard communication channels as appropriate.
