National Day of Mourning – April 28

In 2016, 144 workers lost their life due to a workplace injury or illness. To bring awareness to this tragic situation, each year there is a Day of Mourning ceremony.

This year’s ceremony will take place April 28 at the Aldred Center located just off 16 Avenue NW on the SAIT campus. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m., and the public is encouraged to attend.

For the second straight year, one student will be given the “Day of Mourning Worker Memorial Award” for the amount of $1,000. This award is given to a second-year, or higher, student in any discipline, and is based on financial need, completed safety training and demonstrated leadership and commitment to their chosen profession. Additional information on this award can be found in the SAIT Student Awards Guide.
