Grade 8 students pen thank you letter to truck drivers
Dear truck drivers:
We are grade 8 students who go to Sir George Simpson school in St. Albert, Alberta. We wanted to thank you for all the hard work that you do for us as truck drivers. We know that many people may not truly appreciate all the work you have done in delivering essential supplies for us; however, we think that your job is as important as any front-line worker. We applaud you for doing such a great job!
Even though you are not as visible as others on the front line, we would like to acknowledge you because you work very hard and are a very important part of our society that would normally go unnoticed. Without you, the food that we say we’re running out of wouldn’t have even been there in the first place; all the essential daily supplies would be gone before this pandemic even started.
Now with COVID-19, we know you are putting your family and yourself at risk whenever you meet a new person or deliver to a different area, yet you still do it anyway. We know that you must take all these different health measures and that sometimes they may be difficult to follow. You also have to be extra cautious as what you deliver goes everywhere around the continent and you need to make sure it is safe to use.
With more businesses reducing services, you now even have fewer places to stop for food, rest and to use the bathroom, you still take the risk. You go on the road for hours and hours through all weather to take supplies to stores to keep us alive, not just during this pandemic, but every single day. You also have to live with the notion that you will not see your family and friends for many days at a time. These are some of the altruistic things you do for us and they mean a lot, especially during crises like this.
It should not have taken a whole pandemic to recognize all that you do for us and we are truly sorry that it did. We are glad there are people like you to rely on to deliver our supplies. During regular times, it is easy to overlook the importance of truck drivers like you; however, when crises like this happen, it helps put everything in perspective.
