Driver Appreciation Days a motoring success
The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA), in collaboration with Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) has wrapped its yearly Driver Appreciation Days once again.
Events were held at Vehicle Inspection Stations at Airdrie, Leduc, Burmis, Demmitt and Whitecourt September 3-13. A combined group of CVE officers, industry partners, sponsors and volunteers met with drivers in person in order to show their appreciation and present them with snacks, small tokens and, in some cases, a barbecue lunch.
“Thank you for the hot lunch [today] and the bag of goodies,” said driver Stephen Cameron (via Twitter), who stopped by the Demmitt VIS.
“Truck driving is a technical and demanding job,” said AMTA President Chris Nash. “These folks work long hours away from home, carry huge responsibility for getting the job done safely and are the ones that literally keep things moving on our roads.”
The AMTA would especially like to thank event sponsors the Alberta Government, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Workers’ Compensation Board – Alberta, Loblaw Companies Limited, Isaac Instruments, Grimshaw Trucking, Whitecourt Transport Inc., Rosenau Transport, Drivewyze, ATS Traffic, Willy’s Trucking Service, Westcan Bulk Transport, Trican, Chris Page and Associates Ltd, and all those who donated gifts, for their contributions to the event. As well, the event couldn’t be possible without the hard work of volunteers from a variety of carriers and companies within AMTA membership.
CJAY 92’s Diamond J took advantage of a ride along with 2019 Professional Truck Driving Championship driver Norm (Trican).
“The National Trucking Week is a great opportunity, and CVE is very happy to take part with the ATMA in showing appreciation to drivers for their significant contribution in delivering goods and people safely everyday,” said CVE Acting Chief Jacquie Daumont.
Driver Appreciation events have been held for years in conjunction with National Trucking Week. Each provincial association hosts a variety of programs and activities. New this year for Alberta, was the opportunity for media to enjoy a ride-along with a 2019 Professional Truck Driving Championship driver.
