Announcement from AMTA’s Board of Directors

The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) has experienced significant growth over the last few years. Through that time, we have established and entrenched a diverse range of partnerships and many opportunities that led the Board to the latest version of its long-term Strategic Plan.

To support this new strategic direction, the Board has shifted AMTA’s organizational structure to focus on a relentless commitment to the needs of our membership, creating value opportunities for our industry, and advancing the growth of the association.

As part of that structural change, we are pleased to share that Willie Hamel has joined the AMTA team as Interim President to oversee the day-to-day operations of the association. Willie has an extensive history within our industry in logistics, trucking, and passenger-focused operations. He is also a past member of our Board, holding a seat between 2010 and 2018, including a term as Board Chair. In addition, he has been involved in the Ontario Trucking Association (OTA), the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA), and several other industry associations.

The Board is also excited to announce that Chris Nash has accepted a newly created role within the association as Vice-President, Industry Relations and Member Solutions. This position is focused on bolstering the alignment of the services of the association with the needs of our membership and further expanding the partnerships created through the execution of the Strategic Plan. Chris’ in-depth experience and knowledge of our industry, coupled with his demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with members, will be vital in creating value opportunities for all organizations and individuals connected with the AMTA.

“These changes grow our capacity and strengthen our focus so we can best address the many opportunities our industry faces in the coming years,” says Jude Groves, Board Chair. “They will enable AMTA to respond to members’ needs and pursue aligned opportunities as we grow our association, without blurring the focus on our mandate as a safety and advocacy organization.”
