AMTA releases first of four videos celebrating commercial transportation industry

The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) has produced a video celebrating the commercial transportation industry as the connector, mover and carriers of the province’s economy.

The video was first rolled out to association staff as recognition of their hard work and dedication and as a reflection of the pride management holds for what the AMTA has accomplished both every day and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The video was then shared with board members, key industry stakeholders and membership before being released to the public.

The transportation industry and its frontline workers have always been essential but in the past few months have been touted for their dedication to keeping goods on the move to keep Albertans going.

“From the drivers to dispatch to the warehouses, workers in industry work long hours, often away from their families to ensure essential supplies arrive where they need to be,” said AMTA Chair Jude Groves. “Every team member in our industry has a role to play in ensuring the resilience of our province’s supply chain – services that are delivered with pride and professionalism.”

The AMTA has been serving industry since 1938, and that service has only been amplified throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The association website holds a COVID-19 home page where fleets can access a rest area database, personal protective equipment database, Mental Health Matters resources and more.

“The AMTA serves as the voice, the standard and the resource for Alberta’s commercial transportation industry,” said AMTA President Chris Nash. “As a former driver myself, I am proud of the accolades industry has received.  Trucks keep our municipalities, homes, hospitals and supermarkets running smoothly in good times and times of crisis.”

The transportation has been in the spotlight throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and economic relaunch, including personal shoutouts from both the Federal and Provincial Governments.

“While many of us are working from home, there are others who aren’t able to do that – like the truck drivers who are working day and night to make sure our shelves are stocked,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “So, when you can, please thank a trucker for everything they’re doing and help them however you can.”

“On behalf of the government and the people of Alberta, I want to salute and thank those truck drivers for all that they are doing under trying circumstances during this pandemic,” said Alberta Premier Jason Kenney. “Lets all find some way to acknowledge and thank the truck drivers without whom we could not continue to function.”

The AMTA will be releasing three more videos celebrating industry into the fall.
