October 2022 Driver of the Month: Nestor Wheeler, Gateway Carriers Ltd

Nestor’s greatest passion is truck driving.

He fueled this passion with his first truck driving job in 1973 hauling deadstock for City Packer’s in Lethbridge, Alberta. Almost 10 years later he purchased his first truck and thus began Nestor Wheeler Trucking. In 1998 Nestor starting hauling livestock at Gateway Carriers Ltd. and is still hauling for us today…that’s 24 years and counting! In fact, he was the very first owner operator hired by Gateway Carriers Ltd. Through the years Nestor added more trucks; at one time Nestor Wheeler Trucking even had as many as eight trucks on with us.

While it would be impossible to calculate the total amount of miles that Nestor has put on over his career, we do know that over almost 50 years in the industry he has seen and experienced many changes.

He is a hardworking, resilient, determined, and dedicated individual whom is a valued member of the trucking industry. Nestor has been a mentor, leader, and helper to numerous other drivers and his vast amount of skill and knowledge is priceless in an industry that relies on mentoring; not to mention sharing his love of the industry.

Nestor also recognizes and shares that the trucking industry is not just a job, but rather a lifestyle that is not an easy one to live. It is hard on both the driver and his family. Countless hours away from home, missing special events, and the worry of safety while on the road.

When Nestor is not cruising down the road hauling livestock, you can most certainly find him out on the golf course or holidaying in Mexico for an extended period of time with his wife Judy.

Gateway Carriers Ltd. congratulates Nestor Wheeler on his achievement of AMTA’s driver of the month.
