December 2022 Driver of the Month: Barinder Singh

Barinder’s greatest passion is truck driving. It all started when he was only 13 years old.

That was when he jumped into his family’s farmhouse truck in his hometown village with guidance of a co-driver. It was only a few miles, but it was a great achievement for the young man and provided him an unquenched thirst for a journey driving and trucking. In his teenage years and early twenties, Barinder’s family purchased a bus, and Barinder thoroughly enjoyed driving and working the routes.

In March 2008, Barinder moved from Gurdaspur, Punjab India to Calgary, Canada. Barinder quickly earned his license later that same year, started driving long haul and has never looked back.

Barinder describes himself as ‘reliable’ and ‘efficient’ and is proud to ensure his shipments are always properly loaded to reduce the risk of damage. In an industry where safety is paramount, Barinder is focused on being a role mode of what good, safe driving looks like.

In Barinder’s words “For most people, being a truck driver does not sound very interesting. For me, trucking is a passion I have been enjoying these past 14 years, driving all over Canada and the USA. At Light Speed Logistics, I’m focused on commitment, zeal, and enthusiasm. I guess you could say I’m living the dream.”

Have a chat with Barinder, and you will discover he is passionate about his role as a truck driver because while the routes are long and many days from home, they also provide time flexibility and opportunity to rest at home and spend time with family for more than two days at a time, much longer than the average weekend. Barinder is also very gracious, and he energetically states: “The best part of what I do is shopping at mall outlets across North America during truck stops. I love gifting full bags of fashion apparel for family when I return home from trips. It brings joy to my heart.”

Barinder feels he has a great frame of reference in trucking, which makes him feel young and energetic during his career at Light Speed. And, if you have the opportunity to meet Barinder, you can easily see that youthful energy in his eyes, feel it in his stance and hear it in his words.

Barinder enjoys spending time in the trucking world, and living a wonderful life with his family. His hobbies include playing cricket, watching sports related programs and enjoying movies. With his son and brother working at Light Speed, it is clear Barinder is an exemplar role model and inspiration to his family and colleagues alike. It is not doubt that Barinder “feels like a true warrior every day”, living a great life, serving as a pillar to his family and a great example to all Light Speed drivers what passionate driving looks like.
