Alberta Government announces provincial highway investments

In a release from the Alberta Government March 11, the Province said $5.7 billion over the next three years will be invested in maintaining and repairing highways and supporting water management and flood recovery projects, stemming from Budget 2020.

Approximately $1.17 billion will be put toward maintaining and improving the condition of Alberta’s existing highways and bridges. Another $2.3 billion is slated for road and bridge construction, including the Calgary and Edmonton Ring Roads improvements to Deerfoot Trail in Calgary and other projects including continued twinning work on the Peace River Bridge.

Other investments include:

  • $66 million for the east and west phases of the Highway 19 twinning project between the QEII and Highway 60

  • $10.5 million for the Highway 1A expansion between Cochrane and Canmore

  • $34.5 million for continued work on the Peace River Bridge project

  • Between $100 and $120 million for the twinning of Highway 40
