POSITION OBJECTIVE

This position will help the Education department fulfill their mandate to develop and deliver training and resources to support increased compliance and safety within Alberta’s commercial transportation industry. The Learning Specialist is integral and hands-on in the development of instructor-led and eLearning courses, training and job aids, assessments, and supporting resources. The Learning Specialist will collaborate with internal and external contract instructors to ensure our educational resources meet the needs of students and support instructors in their own development as educators and mentors to our students.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Role Responsibilities

  • Design engaging in-person, virtual, and blended learning experiences using instructional design best practices and tools like Articulate 360 Storyline and RISE

  • Create and maintain high-quality training resources, including presentations, facilitator guides, participant manuals, job aids, and online content; with regular updates to reflect new policies, procedures, and industry trends

  • Collaborate with the Learning Manager, Team Lead, and subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy, relevance, and alignment

  • Evaluate training effectiveness using feedback and data analysis to recommend improvements

  • Facilitate engaging training sessions using dynamic presentation techniques for diverse audiences

  • Provide regular support to the Education team by sharing knowledge and mentoring junior mentors when possible

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field.

Experience:  Five+ years’ experience in adult learning and development delivery

·      Strong understanding of adult learning principles and learning design required

·      Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·      Exposure to Articulate 360 (Storyline, Rise) or willingness to learn

·      Experience with media development (video, audio, graphic design, animation) is an asset

Major Assets:

·      Experience creating storyboards and providing media scripting for training content

·      Experience with blended learning strategies and digital content development

·      Facilitation skills or experience leading training sessions

·      Certification in instructional design, training facilitation, or related fields (e.g., ATD, CPTD)
