Spacemakers named as contractor for new AMTA facility

The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) has named Spacemakers Construction as the design-build contractor for its new training facility in Edmonton.

In January, the AMTA, in conjunction with Edmonton International Airport (EIA) announced a new educational facility and five-acre test track, the third component of the Alberta Aerospace and Technology Centre at EIA.  The scope and preliminary design is presently being reviewed and detailed design and permits will begin this spring, with an estimated construction start later on this fall.

“Spacemakers is excited and proud to be working with the AMTA on their new Edmonton International Airport project,” said Mike Meyer, Spacemakers General Manager, Marketing & Sales. “As we embark on this journey, we together will build something remarkable for generations of world class transportation excellence.”

The nearly 20,000 sq. ft. facility and adjacent five-acre test driving track will be located on the northeast section of EIA between RedTail Landing Golf Course and 36 Street East. The facility will also include a driving simulation trainer, enabling AMTA to conduct complete training for commercial drivers all in one location. Safety training will also be provided in the new AMTA facility.

Spacemakers has completed a wide-range of developments, including the AMTA’s Calgary office, since 1984.
