Whether you’re a business owner, owner-operator, employee or subcontractor, we’re committed to ensuring operators are paid promptly and accurately if they’ve lost wages due to a work-related injury. When an injury happens, feeling prepared and acting quickly makes all the difference. Did you know you must report the injury within 72 hours—including earnings information? To help steer you in the right direction, follow these tips on gathering and completing earnings details. Key pointers to keep you on track:
- Provide the operator’s WCB personal coverage account number, if available.
- Specify their role—owner-operator, sub-contractor, or seasonal, full-time or casual employee.
- Indicate if the truck is leased or owned. WCB will then use their net business income to calculate compensation rates, also covering expenses like fuel and maintenance.
- In all other cases, provide gross earnings for the year prior to the accident or the hire date if less than a year—and include the hire date.
- Report average weekly hours and days worked over the same period.
- For full-time, long-haul operators, input 70 hours per week if they’re on the road for extended periods.
- If paid per load or per kilometre, submit their gross earnings accordingly.
