31 Trucking fleets deliver big on national child hunger campaign

TORONTO, July 29, 2025 – Trucks for Change Network (T4C) has officially wrapped up a two-month, cross-country initiative to ensure children facing food insecurity have access to nutritious meals this summer.

Thirty-one community-minded fleets, united under the Trucks for Change Network umbrella, delivered 101,640 food packs to 73 food banks across the country for Food Banks Canada’s #AfterTheBell program. T4C’s role ensures that each week 12,705 Canadian kids, who rely on in-school meal programs, will have access to nutritious and kid-friendly food after the last school bell rings.

“Once again, our industry stepped up in a big way,” says Betsy Sharples, Executive Director of Trucks for Change Network. “The trucking sector is uniquely positioned to support this important initiative. Not only did our volunteers help assemble food packs and palletize them for shipping, but our network of fleets reaches virtually every food bank that’s accessible by road.”

“The After the Bell program provides nutritious, child-friendly food packs to kids in 235 communities across Canada when school-based food programs are closed for the summer. Thanks to the incredible support of partners like Trucks for Change, a total of 215,000 food packs will reach kids from coast to coast to coast,” shared Food Banks Canada CEO, Kirstin Beardsley. “With nearly 700,000 visits to food banks this month being from children, the need for us to work together to ensure that children have access to the food they need to keep their bodies growth healthy and strong is more important than ever.”

T4C was involved at both ends of this project,” says Sharples. “In May, more than 70 volunteers from 12 Trucks for Change-affiliated organizations assembled and palletized 4,200 food packs in two hours.”

This marks the seventh year in Trucks for Change’s ongoing partnership with Food Banks Canada’s #After the Bell. Food Bank Canada’s goal for the program, which involves a wide range of industry sectors, including Trucks for Change, is to make food packs available to children throughout July and August.

Trucks for Change is a national network of socially responsible trucking companies and industry sponsors that provide transportation services and support to Canadian charities.

A heartfelt thank you to the 31 fleets that made this summer’s deliveries possible — your generosity ensures kids across Canada will receive nutritious support when they need it most.
