Due to COVID-19, extensions to motor vehicle documents were put in place by Service Alberta for documents expiring between March 17th and May 15th. This extension ends at midnight on May 15th and will not be extended.

Government is reminding  membership to renew your motor vehicle documents on or before May 15, 2020. The motor vehicle documents affected are:

-operator’s licences,

-certificates of registration (including registrations obtained through International Registration Plan),

-licence plates,

-Operating Authority Certificates,

-Safety Fitness Certificates,

-permits

-validation tabs for licence plates.

Some registry agents have voluntarily closed or are operating with reduced hours during the COVID-19 pandemic. We suggest phoning your local registry agent in advance to ensure it is open, and to confirm whether they provide the service you require remotely.

Medicals – In most cases, drivers requiring a medical will be able to apply without the medical but will be required to provide the completed medical within 90 days. Medically high-risk drivers will still be required to present their medical evaluation at the time of their application or renewal.  Please go online for more information on medical conditions and driving.

Concessions granted under Ministerial Order 23-20 and 24-20 are still in affect. More information for these MOs can be found online: https://www.alberta.ca/assets/documents/covid-trans-commercial-carriers-fact-sheet-vol-3.pdf
