CTA to Minister: truck driving jobs not disappearing
Although it’s likely the job of the over-the-road truck driver may evolve somewhat, it will not be eliminated or disappear in the age of autonomous vehicle technology, Canadian Trucking Alliance President David Bradley wrote in a letter to federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau, who was reported as saying certain occupations – namely trucking – would disappear in the future as a result of automation.
CTA & CCOHS sign MOU to enhance trucking health & safety
The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) has signed the first-ever memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two organizations.

Top Fleet Employers at Gala Event
Trucking HR Canada’s 3rd annual Top Fleet Employers program shined the spotlight on thirty-nine of the best workplaces in Canada’s trucking industry at their gala awards dinner this month. Of the five awards presented, three – Westcan Bulk Transport, Triton Transport and Ken Cross of SLH Transport – went to members of AMTA.

The federal government has pledged to introduce legislation to legalize the recreational use of marijuana (I’ts already available by permit for medical use) sometime in 2017. This is a much more complicated issue than meets the eye and perhaps more than the government bargained for.

Industry Asked to Rank Top Concerns
The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), the trucking industry’s not-for-profit research organization, has launched the 2016 Top Industry Issues Survey. The annual survey, commissioned by the American Trucking Associations (ATA), asks trucking industry stakeholders to rank the top issues of concern for the industry along with appropriate strategies for addressing each issue. The survey is in its 12th year and participation by trucking stakeholders has grown each year.
Upcoming CVSA Blitz: Brakecheck 2016 (Sept 11 – 17)
During the week of Sept. 11-17, 2016, law enforcement agencies across North America will conduct inspections on large trucks and buses to identify out-of-adjustment brakes, and brake-system and anti-lock braking system (ABS) violations as part of CVSA’s Brake Safety Week, an annual outreach and enforcement campaign designed to improve commercial motor vehicle (CMV) brake safety throughout North America.
