National Day of Mourning – April 28
In 2016, 144 workers lost their life due to a workplace injury or illness. To bring awareness to this tragic situation, each year there is a Day of Mourning ceremony.

Highway 1 expansion and upgrades between BC and Alberta
On Feb. 17, Canada’s Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Amarjeet Sohi and B.C’s Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone announced more than $450 million to expand and upgrade two major sections of the TransCanada Highway – Kicking Horse Canyon and the Donald to Forde Station route.
Northern Alberta Development Council seeks input into 2017 Workforce Scan
CTA: The House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance issued its 145-page report on the pre-budget consultation process. Although the Canadian Trucking Alliance’s (CTA) request to restore federal excise tax refunds did not make the list of recommended items in that report, it was mentioned as part of the official opposition’s dissenting report to the Finance Committee.

CTA: At the recommendation of the Canadian Trucking Alliance, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce called a meeting of national business associations to discuss strategies and a common approach to deal with the Trump administration and potential trade issues at the end of January.

This is the home of the Métis Settlements and the Métis Nation of Alberta, Regions, 2, 3, and 4, within the historical Northwest Métis Homeland.
