Bison Transport driver Darrin Gillmore has been recognized for his remarkable bravery after stopping to help victims of a tragic collision near Sintaluta, Saskatchewan. Gillmore, a 20-year veteran driver, assisted survivors, calmed a young passenger, and took quick action to prevent a potential fire before emergency crews arrived.

For his courage and compassion, Gillmore received the 2025 Bridgestone-OTA Truck Hero Award, which honours professional drivers who demonstrate extraordinary bravery and humanity on the road.

The Hon. Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families, announced new measures to tackle the misclassification of truck drivers and strengthen fairness in Canada’s trucking sector. The plan includes $77 million over four years for enforcement, ending the T4A penalty moratorium, and improving information sharing between government departments.

Trucking HR Canada (THRC) CEO Angela Splinter welcomed the announcement, calling it a vital step toward fair treatment and safe working conditions. Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the Driver Inc. model, which misclassifies drivers as contractors, denying them proper labour protections.

The Federal Budget will be released November 4.
