Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration Joseph Schow issued the following statement on the National Day of Mourning:
“On this National Day of Mourning, we remember those who lost their lives due to a workplace incident, illness or injury. My thoughts are with these workers, their families, friends and co-workers.
“It is a reminder that 144 workers died in Alberta in 2025.
“These 144 people were more than workers. They were parents, siblings, spouses, children and friends. The National Day of Mourning reminds us that everyone, employers, workers and governments, have a responsibility to create healthy and safe workplaces.
“Alberta’s government remains committed to promoting healthy and safe workplaces through programs such as the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Prevention Initiative, enforcing OHS laws and continuing the development of multilingual safety resources.
“On this National Day of Mourning, we remember workers who died and think about what we can do to ensure every Albertan goes home safely.”
