Course Description:
This is a two-day course during which participants will learn the LCV program. Participants will demonstrate their ability to instruct both in-class, and practical environments with LCV equipment. Successful completion of the LCV Instructor/Recertification course enables participants to become AMTA-certified LCV instructors.
Prerequisites for First-time Certifications
LCV drivers who wish to become LCV instructors must meet the requirements and provide the supporting documentation, as follows:
- Valid Class 1 license
- 36 months LCV experience (provide a confirmation letter from employer)
- PDIC certificate (within the previous 48 months)
- Provincial trucking association LCV driver’s certificate
- Carrier issued driver certificate (wallet card)
- Commercial Driver’s Abstract (within 30 days of enrolment)
- Applicants must also provide at least one of the following (and attach a copy of their LCV Carrier Permit):
- Driver of a carrier operating with a valid LCV operating permit
- Safety supervisor of a carrier operating with a valid LCV operating permit
- Employee of a driving school approved to deliver LCV driver training
Existing LCV Instructors
AMTA-certified LCV Instructors must teach a minimum of one LCV course per year and take an LCV Instructor Recertification course every three years. This is a one-day course during which recertifying instructors must demonstrate competence in delivering the LCV program in a practical environment with LCV equipment.
Prerequisites for Existing LCV Instructors Looking to Recertify
Valid Class 1 license
- PDIC certificate (within the previous 48 months)
- An AMTA LCV Instructor’s certificate
- Proof of having instructed at least one LCV driver’s course per year
- Carrier issued driver certificate (wallet card)
- Commercial Driver’s Abstract (within 30 days of enrolment)
Applicant must also identify with at least one of the following statements:
- Driver of a carrier operating with a valid LCV operating permit
- Safety supervisor of a carrier operating with a valid LCV operating permit
- Employee of a driving school approved to deliver LCV driver training
