Condolences for fatal Jasper area collision

Feb 25, 2026 | News

The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) members, staff and board extend their deepest condolences following the fatal collision near Jasper, Alberta, involving two young female hockey players.

“We are heartbroken by this loss,” said Tim Bennett, Chair of the AMTA Board of Directors. “Coming so soon after the tragic crash near Stavely, it feels especially heavy. These were young women with their whole futures ahead of them, and the grief felt in Hinton and beyond is profound.”

Alberta’s highways connect families, schools and workplaces every day. When tragedy strikes, its impact reaches far beyond the immediate scene and touches entire communities. Robert Harper, president of the Alberta Motor Transport Association, said moments like this underscore the responsibility shared by everyone who uses the road.

“Alberta’s roads are travelled daily by families, students and workers. Events like this remind us how interconnected we are and why that shared responsibility matters,” Harper said. “Safety guides our work across Alberta’s transportation sector, with the goal of helping ensure people return home safely.”

“Out of respect for those affected, AMTA will not comment further until more information is available,” Bennett added. “At this early stage, it is important to allow the investigation to proceed without speculation.”

“We stand with Albertans in mourning,” Harper said. “Our hearts are with the families, the classmates, the teammates, and everyone whose lives have been touched by this tragedy.”
