My name is Richard Chaundy. I am originally from England but have been living in Canada for 20 years. My father was a truck driver and would take me out when he could. So, I have always wanted to be a truck driver from an early age. I joined the British Army (Royal Corps of Transport) in 1988. When I left, I started hauling fuel and have been doing that for the last 30 years. Over the years, I can appreciate all the wisdom I have gained. I have always enjoyed driving and the challenges that come along with it, problem solving, adapting, and finding solutions on the road. During my time, I’ve seen the whole industry change, from paper logs to electronic logs, and now the introduction of cameras and sensors. Changes that have made the industry better. That said, the industry hasn’t come without sacrifice, time away from family, long hours, tight schedules, and countless miles driven through mountain storms. But, after more than a million kilometers on the road, I can honestly say that I am truly a trucker at heart, and I wouldn’t change it for anything.
