ELD Update

Transport Canada announced on Oct. 26, 2020 Electronic Logging Device (ELD) certification body FPInnovations has been accredited as the first third-party organization to certify electronic logging devices in Canada. The purpose of the certification body is to ensure electronic logging devices submitted for testing are safe, reliable, and approved for use in Canada.

Further to the announcement of a certification body for ELD’s, CCM-TA updated the Canadian ELD Technical Standard. The Canadian Geo-location database version 1.1 dated December 9, 2019 has been replaced with Canadian ELD Technical Standard version 1.2 dated October 27, 2020.

Both of these announcements are critical steps in getting closer to full implementation of ELD’s in Canada, which is scheduled for June 12, 2021. For more information on ELD’s visit TC’s ELD webpage.

SHP continues to remain safe during COVID-19

Sheriff Highway Patrol members continue to remain committed as front line workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sheriffs continue to reduce contact with members of the public where possible. Traffic duties still require officers to interact with the public on a daily basis. All our SHP facilities have since had sneeze shields installed to help reduce the spread of COVID.

It continues to be an Alberta Justice & Solicitor General (JSG) priority for officers and drivers to feel safe during their daily interactions; Sheriffs will continue to wear PPE as they interact with the motoring public.
