The dream started when I was about 8 years old, when my uncle took me for a ride in a dump truck through the Qu’Appelle Valley. He was my favorite uncle who was always there to teach me things. After looking at the way he handled that truck, I was hooked. I wanted to be just like him. I took his advice – started small and worked my way up, first loading trucks to driving 3 ton., 1 ton with trailer, and tractor trailer. The highlight of my career has been doing LCV for 6 years and settling down with my retirement run to Hinton every day – which I am doing now.
The things I love about my job are the feeling of freedom, enjoying nature, watching the seasons change, Northern Lights, and everything the night sky has to offer. Every day brings something different. The biggest highlight is the kids doing the “arm pump” to get me to blow the air horn…and I never disappoint. When I get home, my daughter is always there to give me the biggest “glad you are home” hug. She is the biggest driver to keep me going. She is why I am out here.
While at home, I enjoy spending time with loved ones, working on the house, baking, watching TV, hockey, and time willing, heading out to Jasper Park. I often organize BBQs for my co-workers. They are my family away from home. Respect to them all.
