Hiring challenges for trucking and logistics employers continue to ease in 2025

OTTAWA, ON (August 12, 2025) — According to new data from Trucking HR Canada (THRC), the hiring frenzy experienced in the trucking and logistics industry in 2022 and 2023 continues to let up in 2025 due to decreased demand for workers and increased supply of job seekers.

Second quarter employment showed little change compared to the same period last year: a decrease of 0.2% in the industry overall, and 1.1%, among transport truck drivers. However, 11,600 more people were looking for work in the sector compared to Q2 2024, including an additional 2,800 transport truck drivers. Job openings data for the first quarter of the year show a decline in the number of positions that employers are actively recruiting.

“For employers this potentially means there is a greater pool of workers to recruit from,” says Craig Faucette, Chief Program Officer, Trucking HR Canada. “This provides employers with an opportunity to build their workforces with the skilled workers needed to drive business growth. As a result, it may be easier for employers to fill their current job openings with highly skilled workers.”
