Executive Director - Alberta Motor Transport Association
THE COMPANY
The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) is a
province-wide, not-for-profit Association formed to provide a
voice for the highway transportation industry in Alberta. The
role of the AMTA is both to foster and promote a professional
image of the industry and to help its members succeed by
providing training programs and safety initiatives that reduce
workplace injuries. They also represent the highway
transportation industry at the provincial and national levels in
dealing with issues such as regulations, trans-border crossings,
taxation, safety, the environment, and the future of trucking.
Today, AMTA represents members that include trucking companies,
suppliers of products or services and WCB account holders. AMTA
provides its members a broad range of benefits that not only
impact their bottom line, but also provide the opportunity to
network within the industry.

THE POSITION
Based in Calgary, Alberta, and reporting to the Board of
Directors through the President, the Executive Director (ED)
will be responsible for providing leadership and overall
direction in the planning, development and implementation of
processes, programs, and activities to support the mission and
strategic directives of the AMTA.
The successful candidate will join the organization at an
important moment in its continued evolution towards operational
excellence, elevated profile, and increased return on investment
for its members through effective advocacy and member service.
Key accountabilities include:

Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships
with the AMTA key stakeholders, specifically:
-
Workers’ Compensation Board
-
Alberta Employment & Immigration
-
Alberta Transportation
-
Ensuring that the mission and the strategic directives of
the Association are operational in all areas of the
Association and ensuring there is an appropriate balance
between on-going and future related business activities;
-
Preparation and implementation of the operational plan and
budget that support the objectives and the goals of the
strategic plan. Establishing and monitoring the member
benefits, marketing, public and government relations and
communications programs;
-
Administration and day-to-day management of the AMTA,
including personnel management, finance and budget,
knowledge management, information technology and office
administration;
-
Implementing and monitoring the ethical values and
management philosophies of the AMTA;
-
Assuring that the association and its products and services
are consistently presented in a strong positive image to
stakeholders and the public. Proactive in government
relations to ensure that the industry is effectively
participating in the development of public policy and
government regulations;
-
Preparation and implementation of the operational plan and
budget to support the Board’s strategic plan;
-
Financial and risk management of the association, ensuring
policies and procedures are in place in accordance with
current laws and regulations.
THE INDIVIDUAL
Given the leading role this individual will be expected to play
in achieving the strategic objectives of the AMTA, it is
essential that the successful candidate possess the following
core competencies, experience and attributes:

Minimum 10 years of progressive management and industry
related experience;
-
Experience in compliance and safety in the transportation
industry would be considered an asset;
-
Post-secondary education in a related field (i.e., business,
management, communications, and political science) is
considered an asset.

Superior interpersonal skills;
-
Exceptional organizational skills;
-
Excellent communications skills (both written and oral);
-
Experience with a member-driven organization is highly
desirable;
-
Innovative, strategic thinking;
-
Customer service mindset;
-
A proven track record in building positive relationships and
creating effective partnerships with colleagues,
members/clients and stakeholders;
-
Strong business acumen and financial experience, combined
with the ability to analyze, interpret and communicate
financial information to the Board;
-
A track record of successfully attracting, mentoring,
developing and motivating staff;
-
Strong relationships with provincial government officials is
considered an asset;
-
Prior experience reporting to and working closely with a
Board of Directors, various committees and stakeholder
groups is desirable;
-
Insightful and straightforward while remaining objective in
business dealings;
-
A confident, self-sufficient, and self-motivated leader.

COMPENSATION
An excellent compensation package awaits the successful
candidate.
LOCATION
The position is located in Calgary, Alberta, however travel will
be required.
